On Friday, February 1st at 10 am, the House Local Government Committee plans to take a close look at county and city funding.  WSAC commends Chair Pollet and the committee members for their interest and will participate in the work session.

First, they will hear from the Department of Revenue for an overview of property taxes, including the 1% property tax limit and how the $10 tax levy is distributed (i.e. $5.90 for local regular property taxes, etc.)

They will next learn about marijuana and liquor revenue from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, including how much is collected each year and how it is distributed between the state and local governments.

Lastly, WSAC Executive Director Eric Johnson and Candice Bock of the Association of Washington Cities will present to the committee regarding how the policies around the property tax cap and marijuana/liquor revenues restrict the needs of local government.

The work session is open to the public and all should feel free to attend.

Additionally, TVW will televise and record the event.
