Wrongful Death Bill Keeps Moving, But Not Without a Fight

WSAC contract lobbyist, Mike Hoover, has kept you well informed regarding SSB 5163 – concerning wrongful injury or death this session, but it is also important to note that, while we may not carry the day on this issue, we have a great group of hardworking people doing their best to make sure our concerns are well understood.

To that end, I wanted to take a moment to draw your attention to the March 19th hearing on the bill in the House Committee on Civil Rights and Judiciary.

The panel of witnesses did an outstanding job of delivering testimony about SSB 5163 and responding to questions.

We greatly appreciate the excellent testimony from Jean Homan, Washington Defense Trial Lawyers; Jennifer Burkhardt, Washington State Hospital Association; and Mike Hoover, Washington State Association of Counties.  Likewise, the Liability Reform Coalition has done a superb job coordinating our efforts.

The video is about nine minutes in length (50:06 to 58:47).  Be sure to watch through the three questions asked of the panel in the final minutes of the testimony. Testimony from the advocates starts before the 50-minute mark.
